And before you say i have read the megathread atleast as much as i can because it feels too buzzwordy for me and i think it is more suitable with people with a little more experience than for litteral noobs also i want to leaen how to in android and not a pc and the megathread leans heavily into pc .

To be clear i am not asking you to hold my hand through everything you can link things as answers these are the question i have tried to look up and haven’t found answers to yet. If there are no answers for my weird questions you can flat out say it or if my post is not in the correct /c/ i’ll be more than happy to remove it. I I used to use telegram which was easy but i did’nt appreciate the telegram owners ethics and the people there are toxic. And then i tried paying and bolted after the date of my payment ran out as the experience was NOT ideal.

Is there any app that can replace telegram where you can just find files and install it ? I am asking about movies and series and is not interested in anything else.

I have tried downloading from streaming sites and you know like bflix but that sucks am i doing it wrong ?

Can i use browser for doenloading or is another client needed ? I can download as much tool as you’d recommend as long as it is from fdroid main repo don’t suggest anything else i just can’t (i know that seems lazy but it is the truth). Also if i am not concerned about ISP should i still use vpn like does it go in my permanent internet record that i torrented a movie or something lol ? I know everything on internet does but is a torrenting record that bad ?

EDIT 1: > Also i want small file forsize movies and series meaning 800mb is alright for a 1hr and 45 minute movie . Like is there any websites that supoly 720p hevc 10 bit kinda formats ?

EDIT 2: Also if you can explain or link some source on how to use the software u suggest that would be helpful.

EDIT 3 : I use fennec with ublock is that goid enough some one suggested it was and if it is that will save me hella lot of trouble.

Will add questions as i remember. Currently i am reading some articles which kinda don’t help me at all . Also i know there is an issue about discussing these things on the /c/ so if you want you can dm me the answers. I don’t know why i didn’t get into this sooner but please remember to be kind to the noob as all of you once were noobs.

Edit : Sorry for the spelling and grammer english is my second lang.

EDIT : Even though i may not have replied to each and every suggestion i do appreciate them and will try out one by one thanks to everyone who bothered to help.

For watching movies and shows there is nothing simpler than Stremio with the Torrentio addon.

For other files I don’t like the BitTorrent protocol for sharing because it complicates file sharing, requiring files to remain in their original locations without renaming when creating a torrent. I prefer Nicotine+ and Fopnu as they allow me to easily select folders for sharing without any complications. These are the only programs I know of that are compatible with Windows and Linux and are actively developed. They are newbie friendly because searching for files inside the program is straightforward. I’ve also used eMule, Gnutella, DC++, Shareaza, MLDonkey but I don’t recommend them. Although eMule has good availability for old/rare content.

I would say a torrent client is all you need, maybe a VPN depending on where you are from. I don’t torrent from my mobile but I do know libtorrent is available on f droid repo. Bookmark some of the trusted sites in the mega thread and once you click on the magnet link or the torrent file of what you wanna download, it should open libtorrent and asks for where to save and stuff. That’s about it. I know qbittorrent has search plugins so you can find and download within the torrent client but not sure if it’s available on lib. Good luck and always stick to safe sources and be updated on if they are still trusted and don’t cause any issues.

Almost all I do is torrent from mobile.

I use windscribe vpn and enable the setting to block all data not going though it, so there can’t be an accidental leak, and I use the apk Flood to manage my torrents, as it has a lot of nice options and allows me to download files to any folder I’d like.

I use Seal, yt-dlp android front-end, on my phone to download videos from streamming sites.

For torrenting, Deluge on my computer and libtorrent on my android. I mainly use torrent for anime so I download a .torrent file from nyaa and open it with Deluge. Done.

If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. It simply downloads torrents, I wouldn’t worry about it.

It doesn’t protect you from evil executables, no torrent client does (that I know of). It’s up to you to make sure you trust what you download. If it simply is movies I wouldn’t be bothered, but games/software can be nasty when from public trackers (open for everyone torrent search engines). The same is true for direct downloads.

That’s what anti-virus and common sense are for. If you’re downloading from a dodgy site and are unsure about if it’s a virus, don’t download. The megathread is a good tool for websites that are deemed safe and there’s always a post or few on what sites are safe, what are fakes, so on and so forth. When you’ve found sources that work for you, keep them. Popular sources will have everything but the most niche of content.

Start small, don’t dive in to the Arr suite right away unless you’re Linux savvy.

Get a VPN like Airvpn or mullvad, get torrent software like qbittorrent, and browse torrent sites on the top ten list at torrentfreak.com

Use jellyfin or Plex to stream your library from your computer to your TV if you’re into that or just connect a computer to your TV.

I use LibreTorrent. It is available in F-Droid repos. Copy and paste magnet links and it downloads the files. You may want to use a vpn, depending on the country you are in.

I’d suggest using a VPN, if you’re in a first works country, basically torrenting can be recorded by your ISP/movie studios etc, whereas streaming typically won’t be

Most VPNs typically will have a desktop app (if using windows) that you can use to make sure it’s on and functional etc (and can even force apps to not be able to torrent when its turned off)

If you live in a 3rd world country don’t worry about the VPN

Beyond that, what you want is in terms of simplicity is something like Stremio with the torrentio add-on installed, this will allow Stremio to find torrents for whatever you want to watch, you can select quality, language, etc with it. It’ll work for film and TV.

Install Stremio and then install Torrentio

You can download the apk from the website below: Apk here: https://www.stremio.com/downloads Add-on for Stremio here: https://torrentio.strem.fun/

bummer. But, it sounds like you have time while you search for a real computer to learn about the shit you need.

you only need a shitty, old piece of crap computer someone tossed. it does not have to be performative. install linux, and you can achieve your goals. a 15 year old retail pc is more capable than a new phone with regards to the tasks you are attempting.

phones are crippled with regards to memory and core use because they are not general purpose devices. they are phones.

Nah the only thing i miss out without pc is when i need to mess with the phone software itself like flashing rom. Also i think we have long them just being “phones” and they are more just pocket computers since we barely ‘phone’ anymore and with everyone adpting the arm structure more they will only grow more compactible and mainstream. But yeah currently i am broke but saving up to buy a system 76 or thinkpad soon.

As i said yours and my use cases vary very much and i did agree that proffesionals or people like you who hosts instances will need that i am just talking from my perspective in which i don’t need a PC that much to take a loan out and by tied to debt. And yes arm still lacks atleast for now but i am guessing it will be the future for several reasons

The linked app Stremio will work on android, you just download the apk directly as it’s not on available on Fdroid, the add-on will work with android and VPNs work on android either natively or via there own app, depends on who your VPN provider is.

Install BiglyBT from fdroid. That is a torrent downloader for android. It has a search function to find torrents. Or you can search torrents using any number of websites.

As for quality and size… At this point in your journey you’ll have to sort and filter manually for those.

Also, you won’t find many guides for android and everything does lean heavy on PC. So if you can afford it eventually get yourself a cheap laptop, it’ll make things much easier for you.

Fennec is a Firefox fork on F-droid, use this as your browser and install ublock origin as your adblocker. Top right menu in fennc then press add-ons and find ublock origin and install it. Customise by pressing the top right menu of fennec -> add-ons -> ublock origin -> settings

Then just use the direct download sites in the megathread to download your files from. You can follow something like this video to harden ublock and make sure you block the ads that pretend to be download links.

    OR

If you want to seed (upload the files you download from the torrent) back to other people like you, then use fennec, the same as above, but use the torrent sites linked in the mega thread instead of direct download sites and use a torrent client like libretorent on the F-droid repo to add the magnet links or torrent files you get from these sites. It will start downloading the files and also uploading the parts you have downloaded to other people that want them.

I always recommend a VPN and on android you can turn on always on VPN and and block connections without VPN in android settings but that’s up to you and what your country is like when it comes to piracy

    OR

Others might be able to suggest a streaming setup? But I don’t stream anything so can’t help you there

What is unclear with the mega thread? Maybe get some sleep and try again.

You can direct download sometimes but content is usually downloaded through torrents. If you want to download a torrent you need a client that can handle these torrents, you can probably search for “torrent client Android” and find something, I’ve never downloaded on my phone.

To find torrent files, check the megathread. Usually such a site works as a search engine for torrents, where each torrent equals a movie, game or some such. So you could say they replace telegram I guess.

At least that’s how I pirate, albeit with some more automization and through private trackers.
