No no you don’t understand MY generation! Your geezer generation will never understand. We are unique and different. Nobody can understand my struggles…
*Years later you realize it’s all the same shit everyone goes through and you should have listened to those older people trying to give you advice
Learn to code, quit eating avocado toast, save up your money to buy a house, have a family… Great advice grandpa, thanks.
Sounds like you have gotten some shitty boomer advice. I was thinking more like…
That fad you think is cool now? Yeah you’re gonna look back on that and cringe.
I understand you feel like it’s you against the world, I felt the same when I was your age.
That person you think you love now? Probably not as serious as you think it is in the grand scheme of things
I can go on and on. These are literally things I was told in my teens and ignored because “NoBoDy UnDeRsTaNds!”
We all go through the same shit in different phases of our lives, just with whatever twist that the new Gen is into.
Disturbed, 2009 cover of Land of Confusion, by Genesis 1986:
I must’ve dreamed a thousand dreams Been haunted by a million screams But I can hear the marching feet They’re moving into the street
Now, did you read the news today? They say the danger’s gone away But I can see the fire’s still alight Burning into the night
There’s too many men, too many people Making too many problems And there’s not much love to go 'round Can’t you see this is a land of confusion?
This is the world we live in And these are the hands we’re given Use them and let’s start trying To make it a place worth living in
Oh, Superman, where are you now? When everything’s gone wrong somehow? The men of steel, these men of power Are losing control by the hour
This is the time, this is the place So we look for the future But there’s not much love to go 'round Tell me why this is a land of confusion
This is the world we live in And these are the hands we’re given Use them and let’s start trying To make it a place worth living in
I remember long ago When the sun was shining And all the stars were bright All through the night In the wake of this madness, as I held you tight So long ago
I won’t be coming home tonight My generation will put it right We’re not just making promises That we know we’ll never keep
There’s too many men, too many people Making too many problems And there’s not much love to go 'round Can’t you see this is a land of confusion?
Now, this is the world we live in And these are the hands we’re given Use them and let’s start trying To make it a place worth fighting for
This is the world we live in And these are the names we’re given Stand up and let’s start showing Just where our lives are going to

It’s just inaction and hypocrisy all the way down.
Well, I’m no longer a Disturbed fan. Guess I’ll turn the Floyd up.
…I was kinda heartbroken. Every fucking time I convince myself that some celeb is a genuinely good person, they come out with some ghoulish bullshit like this this.
It’s fucking DISTURBED! Like, did you guys even hear your own fucking lyrics??
I hate how valid the whole “never meet your heroes” spiel is.
Yeah, it happened with Marylin Manson too. I love his music until I found out he sexually abused people. Nah, I’m good. Never need to hear him again. Fuck all these shitty people. Saw both in concert too. How disappointing!
They were one of the go-to bands being played by soldiers during the Iraq and Iran war. While that doesn’t make them bad by default it does put them in the position of being supportive of the military industrial complex. So, it’s 100% on brand for them to be signing bombs for Israelis.
One of the Israeli narratives is of self-defense against terrorism after all. If you remove all of the context around the situation and hold to that reductive stance, then Disturbed is just doing what they’ve always done.
In all fairness, there’s a huge distinction between individual soldiers and the military as a whole. Like, I’m a fan of of oldschool power metal, but that doesn’t make any connection between power metal and the hospital I work for, nor does it make the bands I listen to affiliated with healthcare.
Soldiers are a mixed bag, spanning the entire spectrum of politics, morals, etc. At the end of the day, the message in Disturbed’s music was usually a positive one, that tends to do things like criticize things like the military being used as a force of evil.
…which I really thought was sincere, cuz I’m a gullible idiot.
It’s not self defense to bomb girl’s schools, or any schools, or use chemical weapons, forcibly starve children by denying them aid meant for them, and then laughing at them while they are starving. The rapes are bad, bombing hospitals is bad. Israeli military actions are war crimes. I’m feeling some Nurenberg Trials a’comin’.

But not every generation is willing to actually do something about it.
The thing that gets me, is that eventually you get old enough to realize that many of the anthems of youthful rebellion were only written and released because you would buy it.
You get some true believers like Run the Jewels and Rage Against the Machine, but so many more are just pandering to the kids.
