The father took part in the January 6 storming of the Capitol. His son turned him in to the FBI. Now that Donald Trump has pardoned him, Guy Reffitt and his wife are hoping for a return to normalcy - and fearful that it way never come.

i hate how its washed over that these racist pieces of shit are all brainwashed by foxnews. if that propaganda didnt exist, a huge swath of america would just be regular racist and not completely beholden to their own fear of imaginary government beasts.

Honestly, I’m past it affecting me personally. I know everyone has a different relationship, but that’s republican talk imho. “I’ll be upset once I’m affected” is not cutting it for me. I have family that voted Trump and I’ve cut them off. There’s no discussion to be had and I don’t want them in my life at this point. They now “are too busy to keep up with the news” when asked about anything Trump has done recently. Absolutely deranged behavior and I don’t want them in my home. Again, not saying everyone can do that, but these people likely don’t deserve your time, respect, or attention.

That’s fucking insane? Rhetoric is out of control.

Worrying about keeping a roof over your family and keeping them fed is super fucking sane.

You can argue that it’s not the most important thing, and yeah let’s kick some fascists into the next life, but food and shelter are immediate needs. And what is fucking insane is attacking someone on your own side for having similar priorities but ranking them differently.

Even when the internet is on your side they are a bunch of fucking assholes about it.

First and foremost, Guy is an insurrectionist. Not a “capital stormer”, not a “J6er”, he’s an insurrectionist.

"I was stuck in a box. I had to walk in chains and shackles for four years.”

"If all you’ve lost is your job, stop whining!”

And you were fed 3 meals a day and given free medical care. Lose your job and Trump’s America won’t lift a finger to help.

Oh man, reading that was a wild ride. The unrepentant convicted insurrectionist vacillates between deep hate speech and positive statements supporting his son. The wife watched her unemployed husband desend into the cult and is in a fantasy land of hoping her family will be the loving close family they were before the father/husband went full MAGA.

There is that one incident that the family cannot agree on. Guy Reffitt [the insurrectionist father] asked Jackson [the son] about his political convictions, and Jackson responded by saying he was communist. And that America should be communist. "That makes you a traitor, bro,” Guy purportedly said. And traitors deserve to be shot.

Father of the year here. /s

FWIW - I met a Republican at a wedding this past weekend. If you heard some of the things he said, you’d be right to be scared or offended. However he did take some light teasing and disagreement fairly well, from his family and friends. Most importantly it was clear he was not an overall bad guy, not filed with hatred, but terribly misinformed. He also did not like having his sources questioned nor was he open to looking more closely at his foundations for his beliefs, so ymmv.

So I guess it could go either way but I came out of it thinking he’s a decent guy who is misinformed. I don’t know if it’s possible to get him to examine his sources of belief or question those beliefs or if he’s stuck in that world forever, but at least he’s still good toward friends and family that think differently
