We can’t decide if this is a great or terrible idea for your smart home.
Interesting form factor. Would love to have something like this, but not tied to some cloud app/service.
They aren’t the first to do it, so there is probably some out there that aren’t tied to a service - https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/buying-guides/best-light-bulb-security-cameras
I suppose most of them aren’t also light bulbs in traditional sense, but not sure how much that would matter.
Thanks for the link.
For the use case I’m considering (porch light), having the actual light bulb would be preferable. Just have it always on and do something else (e.g. timer/motion detection) to turn the light on and off. Would be a good reason to get off my arse and setup HomeAssistant.Home Assistant is both great and terrible. If you haven’t gotten into home automation the biggest pain is figuring out what kind of network you want to run (like Zigbee). But I’m by no means an expert in that space.
You can install custom firmware on the wyze cameras, and disconnect them from the cloud completely!
