  • There would probably be more illegal actions taken into account if caught if they cost the person/church/organization/company more money by doing so.

While fun I am sure there are better ways to do something without costing people/organizations money. I think this is important to consider when we compare deeds and acts we deem as better for everyone and compare it to things we deem as not okay for everyone because we tend to get wrapped up in the idea that our opinions justify what is right when what it boils or would boil down to is this.

Ousting a right wing ass hole and costing him and the church more money = illegal

Ousting someone through extortion or costing them more money through scams = illegal

While we could morally argue one is far better than the other the way this could be portrayed especially by someone in Florida a specific politician called DeSantis: “Those gay rights activists are basically scammers and extortionists.”

While on the surface their moral obligations are clearly different and I applaud them. Hacking without consent or authorization is technically illegal regardless and can be charged but they are less likely to look like the bad guys by not costing, someone or some thing, absurd amounts of money that they would end up paying back like wise there is less fire power against them.

    Either way good on them.

  • While I am a stranger and me saying sorry probably doesn’t help much. That stuff sucks and I am sorry you had to deal with it. People have it in their head that we are all supposed to love our family and just get along but people don’t realize that families are sometimes just people who didn’t love us or loved us less than we loved them or vice versa loved us more than we loved them. Family is tricky. It doesn’t sound like you were close and I don’t know your entire story but either way it is a loss and regardless of him not being there for you it says a lot that you were at the very least there for him. Which, in my opinion, is the most you can do.

I hope you are the person that carries that forward and uses that as a means to not walk out on others lives when they need you most and I hope in return they are a part of yours when you are on your way out of this world. Enjoy your holidays.

  • “(on Reddit (/comments/). yuck!)”

Guys, we fucking get it. You hate mainstream apps like reddit but the solutions aren’t on Lemmy until someone finds them elsewhere like reddit.

Do we really need to emphasize our hate for something every damn time we make a post. Thanks for the solution but why couldn’t you have just posted the solution.

God I hate Lemmy, they want a bigger user base to stay away from content controlled by big corps and to move to federated content but will shove their ideals on the community every time and that is what keeps pushing people wanting to stay here away. We don’t need to hear about FOSS and Linux every time. And we get it. We hate reddit that is why the user base moved here.

    EDIT: God I love Lemmy.

  • Not an SO story.

Not to you know brag or anything here guys but I did have 3 people fighting over me once.

2 of them actively ended up sleeping together to try and get me to pick one of them.

I chalk it up to, “pfft it’s because he uses Linux.”

Kidding of course. In all honesty, I had gone through a very confusing breakup. At the time I was sleeping with three people. All of them knew about one another and they all knew I wasn’t looking for anything serious because of the previous breakup. I was also trying to finish school.

All three people were really sweet and I still talk to two of the 3 and they are good people. We were all 4 going through a confusing time in our life. The one I don’t speak to now is married. I wish all of them well.

Also, before you ask. (You won’t but I feel the need to clarify) I am genuinely meh on the attractive scale or so I am told. So I don’t know which black magic was at work but it was a fun and stressful time.

I am reading half of these stories and just appreciating how all three of the people knew about each other and all ended up being chill with one another and me. You all are dealing with some crazy shit.

  • I second this. Lemmy is fully of “techy people” that think the only way to be “techy” is the way they define it without realizing if you aren’t universally adept or open then you are curating your content to a point you are part of the “sheep” you claim not to be a part of.

If you like anything you pay for then you are wrong. If you still use Windows you are wrong. You need to abandon everything Google and Apple but still buy a Google product and run a degooglefied version of the product. So give the company you hate your money but not your data. Makes perfect sense.

It’s either Linux or the highway but not everyone wants to use a terminal to use Mullvad or Tor every time you want to access the web to shop for a pair of shoes. Despite the fact you can write a script that still requires you to use a terminal to run Tor or what ever.

Not everyone wants Torrent speeds to pirate that piece of Microsoft software or movie. Some of us want to be, “normies” and just buy and use things that work without all the work that is unnecessary in our every day lives. We want to go to work, make money, spend time around people and things we love.

Yes, we get it we are the reason corporations and capitalism exist but I don’t see your FOSS downloads and open source software slowing that way down. We don’t need online tech heros who can prove you can free yourself. We need activists and people like that running got local politics and leadership helping actually put a stop to being taken advantage of.

Posting something about Unity enraging game companies is something anyone can do. But shoving a community off that you should be respectfully educating rather than shunning just because someone didn’t want to pirate a movie and instead watch it on a Windows machine through Linux isn’t or doesn’t change anything.

I am no longer on Reddit but Lemmy is fully of tech people who also often have 0 fucking clue what they are talking about. Which is quite ironic.

  • I am about to go back to reddit because Lemmy users suck as human beings. I can’t believe the user base that was here before Reddit users think they are somehow fucking better.

They think they are alternative to an average person somehow. Constant posts about how they are different but after seeing a post of them comparing trans protesting to the extremism of the KKK and seeing the comments be full of people talking about how they are “middle people” they “stay on the fence” and are “different” because they don’t believe in being extremist. I think I am done with this fucking place.
