Rule: if your company sets you up against your colleagues because you xor they have children, it’s time for a strike or time to quit

Europe@lemmy.ml•Nazi Europe is starving two babies because their father reported on genocide
23·22 hours agoDid you even read my comment? This is precisely the point. If something illegal happened through her bank account, that would be the only viable reason to block it. If not, there is no justification to block it.
The account blocking has taken a form recently that I condemn, I don’t think this should be used in the political discourse.
From the information I could gather about the case, I can’t say what happened through her account. There are some vague statements from the Bundespressekonferenz that make it seem like the government/EU takes that position. The family and lawyer claim the opposite.
In this case, I would tend to side with the family until we know more. My point was just that there is quite a stretch between blocking a bank account and starving children.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why don;t most of us Americans only need like one foreign language to pass high school? Why not make it mandatory for like 3 or 4 languages?Would that not give us the upper hand when traveling?
4·1 day agoIt’s more likely that most people wouldn’t pass high school anymore

618·1 day agoSure, but they are not going to starve as written in the title. That’s just a blunt lie. They live in Germany and there are plenty of support options.
If the parents commit a crime related to their bank account, it’s reasonable to block these accounts.
The more relevant question is whether anything illegal has happened through his wive’s bank account. If so, block it. If not, don’t you dare block it. Simple as that

Opensource@programming.dev•Euro-Office, a good fork of highly criticized ONLYOFFICE
5·1 day agoIt’s massively inconsistent, lacks good defaults, stuff moves around everywhere, sizing is off. It’s just a grown project that lacks a serious effort to work on the UX. It’s free to use of course, but I think in 2026 the standards are just different

As a positive side effect, that would produce a massive pile of dirt, big enough to bury the Epstein files
Yes, among all the valid criticism of ai, this doesn’t feel like it. More like “let’s find a definition for tool that excludes AI” (and not even bother checking if it applies to other tools as well)

9·2 days agoI wish it were as reliable as libreoffice, hopefully in a future release.
Current state: libreoffice has a terrible UI but works. OnlyOffice has a great UI but only works when I don’t need it urgently

Off My Chest@lemmy.world•Does anyone else have parents who want you to have kids?English
7·2 days agoYes, very common especially for women (from what my friends tell me). If you still have grandparents, they are usually even more blunt.
As a man, my mother has slowly started to suggest she would be interested in seeing how my children would look like. But it’s definitely less common as a conversation topic. She already has some grandchildren from my siblings as well, so the pressure is less intense.
So yes, very common and very annoying
Okay, so same issue as I have. But I think we’re getting there. There is a dedicated section already in my local electronics store which tells me this is becoming mainstream already
