  • I hate feeling pressured into stereotypes just to prove my gayness.

If this whole thing is about living genuinely why should I have to read books that define who I am to me? Why can’t I just be me the way I like to be?

I’ve always felt trapped, like I’m too straight for the gay kids but too gay for the straight kids.

The two main reasons it took me decades to come out were homophobic neighbors and feeling like I wasn’t gay enough because I wasn’t interested in all the stereotypical gay hobbies/interests.

Side note. I didn’t think you were pressuring me or being negative. Your line “read up on queer theory” reminded me of some of the toxic interactions I had so I felt the need to vent.

Yeah purity testing has burned so many bridges unnecessarily.

It’s one thing to hold yourself to a standard, it’s another to repeatedly alienate yourself because nobody is pure enough to measure up.

The American left has been ineffectual because it’s as interested in fighting itself as it is fighting conservatives.

Undecided/uninformed voters see the difference between the parties as: endless pissing contest vs proud ignorance. At least the ignorant are having fun and getting shit done.

Until the culture stops prioritizing smuggies over who’s the best leftist and starts prioritizing meaningful action we’re just going to keep losing.

We need to start treating politics as a popularity contest and not like a reddit comments pissing contest.

  • No. As a rule basically anything you see here that the right is “panicking” about is a nothing burger to them.

It’s the same with their news feed, they get articles about how the left is “panicking” over shit nobody actually cares about.

More and more were hating fictionalized versions of each other and the ensuing culture war gives the 1% room to pave over our rights.

We’re to the point now where the “wft I love/hate X now” meme isn’t a joke. The culture war is fully driving people’s values, not ideology.

This is the main reason why people vote for trump, they want to win the culture war and don’t give a fuck about ideology.

Next time you see a headline or article ask yourself if you actually give a shit or if you’re being told to give a shit. You’ll be surprised how often it’s the latter.

95% of the memes here (like this one) here are just strawmen for culture war fodder.

  • Yeah I hate the 1% but you have to be extremely naive to think that just killing them is the answer when all of the mechanisms that led to their existence are intact.

Even if you killed the top 10 richest people every month you’d still have insane wealth consolidation, just with different family members on the chopping block each month.

The French revolution ended in utter chaos because they had no plan beyond killing the crown.
