  • Didn’t live there but looked into moving there (to Whitehorse), so this is only from personal research and talking to recruiter;
    Beautiful nature to enjoy.
    Relatively cheaper housing (if your job pays enough).
    Smaller communities (good or bad depending on your preference).
    Somewhat limited choice/somewhat expesive general cost of living (groceries/household stuff etc and not easy shipping).
    Higher likelihood of depression/burnout, though some decent employers “try” to offset it with few extra vacation days or even, IIRC, like 1 continental flight (including Carribean?) covered for vacation. Don’t remember whether that flight thing included partner or not or if it was a specific thing for Whitehorse/Yukon as a whole.

    Edit… completely forgot, wildfires can be a real fucking problem, not just a thing you see in the news (speaking as a metro Van person)

  • Yes, but they will be on the shelves late® it seems (Maybe different for eastern provinces?). In BC I only saw them late August/early Sept this year I think and since it’s end of the season for other suppliers, no good deals.
    Mexico is usually already June if not earlier, even some deals to be had, usually found them to be easier to spot a good one and on average were better than US ones so I’ve been avoiding US even before turd2.

    Edit: FWIW I mostly either see Mexican or some other foreign workers on farms, so I have my doubts they are treated particularly well. Ive seen some of the accommodations they have on farms (like those portable container size boxes at constructions, foremen? use as offices), they usually go to shop in groups, so I guess not much freedom or high enough pay to do what they want. I therefore don’t feel super inclined to buy only “Canadian” in that department. Meanwhile there are plenty of mansions being built up at various farms around lower mainland…

  • Dunno about the other airports, but what makes it particularly idiotic at YVR is that a lot of extra construction has been happening over the last few years (parking garages it would appear?). And you just know that any private owner will make parking costs sky high and government will see fuckall profit from that investment. Sure they could make very specific contracts with private owner about that, but this is government we’re talking about, buddy of a buddy will be raking it in.

    Edit some ragespelling
