Who is Ms. Rachel? A potential next Mr. Rogers?
I’ve only heard of her through posts like this, but she seems based.
I think it’s safe to say she is definitely the next Mr Rogers. She started a Youtube channel focused on early education and gained a lot of popularity because she’s really really good at speaking to children. She’s got a masters degree in Music Education and Early Childhood Education. She started the channel when her son had a speech delay and realized there was a lack of research-backed videos focused on language development.
Since she gained popularity, she has really focused her social media outreach on the children of Palestine and speaking up for them. She’s a real one.
“But no money from wealthy people of color, please.”

How do you think the breakdown of general wealth and race compare to the breakdown of donations to the assistance of Gaza/Palestinians? I’m willing to bet there’s a big discrepancy and a comparative lack of donations from rich white folk.
Calling on the group that is in the best position to assist but is underrepresented isn’t a negative… unless you don’t actually care about helping and you are just looking for your shitty “gotcha” moment in an online comment, proving you’re an insufferable twat.
We’re not talking about the general population. We’re discussing rich white celebrities vs rich celebrities of color. My guess is donations from rich white celebrities are basically equal to rich celebrities of color.
A lot of people in this thread like throwing insults around.
We’re not talking about the general population.
Right, neither was I.
My guess is donations from rich white celebrities are basically equal to rich celebrities of color.
And I’m willing to bet it’s nowhere near equal, because it never is. I’d bet if we take donations from the wealthy white compared to all other wealthy donations, there would be a very big difference. From both a raw quantity and a percentage of wealth perspective.
A lot of people in this thread like throwing insults around.
When there are a lot of comments that seem to be intentionally misinterpreting what they’re responding to, that tends to happen.
Like assuming my previous comment somehow was not in reference to the wealthy despite this entire post being about that.
wealthy white celebrities, not wealthy white people. funny you should bring up people intentionally misinterpreting what they’re responding to.
I didn’t say rich white people. I literally quoted you talking about celebrities, and responded to that specific point.
Are you forgetting how conversations work? Or how responding to specific quotes usually works?
Are you intentionally trying to shift the conversation based solely on flawed reading comprehension?
And I’m willing to bet it’s nowhere near equal, because it never is. I’d bet if we take donations from the wealthy white compared to all other wealthy donations, there would be a very big difference. From both a raw quantity and a percentage of wealth perspective.
“wealthy white compared to all other wealthy donations.” I don’t see the word celebrity in there. Is that what you meant? wealthy white celebrities compared to all other wealthy celebrity donations?
How do you think the breakdown of general wealth and race compare to the breakdown of donations to the assistance of Gaza/Palestinians? I’m willing to bet there’s a big discrepancy and a comparative lack of donations from rich white folk.
again, from your first post: you said “rich white folk”, not “rich white celebrities”. You’re just being obtuse if you think I should think you are talking about celebrities only.
“The way people higher up our social hierarchies are reliably listened to over those lower down these unjust rankings is itself a major injustice. And it’s a pernicious everyday fact of life under oppressive systems like patriarchy and white supremacy. But there’s a right way and a wrong way to respond to the situation as a more privileged person. The right way involves speaking up when others who are less privileged won’t be heeded in the same way, and then using your power and privilege to amplify the voices of the marginalized folks who’ve long been shouting into the void. A wrong way is speaking over those who are better positioned to understand the issues due to their lived experience. But there’s another wrong way too: maintaining a scrupulous silence.”
“When powerful and privileged white people speak in defense of Black and brown people subject to state violence and colonization and genocide, there’s often a long overdue moment of reckoning.”
I heard substack is full of Nazis so obv this is Nazi propaganda

Holy shit none of this has anything to do with donating to Palestinian causes. This is just a blanket statement that you think allows you to say and do bigoted things. You think a rich person of color has less power and privilege than I do?
You think a rich person of color has less power and privilege than I do?
Are you a wealthy white celebrity?
Okay, so you weren’t talking about me. You are saying the white wealthy celebrities are not allowed to “respond to” wealthy celebrities of color, is that correct?
You asked if I thought a rich person of color has less power and privilege than you do. Since the topic is Ms Rachel calling for wealthy white celebrities to match her donation, I asked if you were one.
Because yes, wealthy white celebrities generally have more power and privilege than rich people of color.
And so therefore, Ms Rachel needs to qualify her statement so that only white wealthy celebrities should match her donation to Palestine? Is that correct?
Inviting wealthy white celebrities to match her donation does not mean that only wealthy white celebrities can donate.
I am trying to understand the prevailing point of view. Why did she say “I will match Macklemore’s donation and I invite every wealthy white celebrity to match it and speak out against the genocide in Gaza” instead of just “I will match Macklemore’s donation and I invite every wealthy celebrity to match it and speak out against the genocide in Gaza”. Is it because, as Velma’s post seems to indicate, that Ms Rachel cannot speak about disadvantaged people, and therefore must qualify it with “white”? Is that something that all white/advantaged people need to do with language?
Or maybe we’re all just sick of concern trolling.
It was an earnest question, maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to judge.
Because more people pay attention when white celebrities speak.
I’m sorry, but this is not a great answer. We’re talking about donating money. Green speaks equally across all races. And rich people have a lot of it, regardless of their color.
Green speaks equally across all races.
It absolutely does not. And this is not just about donations, but about speaking out about it publicly.
I meant to write “green spends equally across all races”.
Doesn’t change my answer.
