        Big time. From that article:

“Ed Sheeran had an opportunity [to] show that we won’t be bullied into punishing people for supporting Palestine. Instead he caved to people who refuse to accept what the world knows. A genocide is happening in Gaza. We all need to speak out against it.”

POW! Right in the kisser. Absolute BOSS lady.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised Ms. Rachel has a million dollars, but here I am having not really thought about it before.

Wow. She was popular in our house for a while but through Netflix (and even overtook that God awful Cocomelon for the top spot on most watched in Ireland for kids) but I never knew she’d reached such heights.

I already thought she was one of the kindest souls on this earth but this whole thing is just the icing on the cake.

And I haven’t seen a single one of them. I’ve heard of Ms. Rachel, but she doesn’t really play a part in my life.

It is kind of annoying people blaming Americans as if I personally am responsible for the shit Trump does.

I think critics of our fascist American leaders understand that not every single American voted for them but they are criticizing America as a whole, not you as an individual. It’s like how I appreciated Hungarians for starting to break away from their ugliness, even though plenty voted for Orban.

It’s good to finally see Israel’s genocide of Gaza starting to be recognized by western mainstream media, and that several famous celebrities are using their platforms to advocate for the Palestinian cause. I can only hope there will be some form of justice for the Palestinian people eventually…

if you do this in Australia you’ll be hauled before the courts for hate speech, being against Israel is antisemitic. Alas, we’ve adopted a broad brush

I think it works like this: If your friend makes this joke to you and a small group of friends, and you know they’re not racist, and just being silly, it’s okay. If you hear a stranger shout this in a crowd, it’s too risky to give them the benefit of the doubt. Because they might be a bad actor trying to drum up support with the wrong kind of people. You all feel like like-minded friends to me, but you’re really strangers, and so are the people who can hear what you say.

Okay but with the context of the headline and the presence of an emoji, you can easily tell this is a light-hearted joke. Some people seem to be looking for problems where there are none.

There are plenty of people in the comment sections of these articles actually complaining about white people being targeted. It’s a matter of reading the room.

you certainly are proud in your ignorance of what it takes to have spare millions while white in america vs what it takes to have spare millions while not white in america. odds are, for one of them you just have to work harder than the other given the same circumstances and dilemmas etc.

    Dumb to specify white celebrities.

Edit: Yes I understand white privilege. But, don’t all celebrities have privilege? Don’t all wealthy people have privilege? I don’t know why people insist on turning classism into racism.

      Later in her statement:

We have a moral obligation to use our privilege and platforms to protect children and human rights.

She has been blasted 24/7 for not “staying in her lane”, so I think she understandably wants to draw a direct causal line explaining why this “is her lane”.

So only the “anglosphere” should donate to defend them? Do you actually want to defend them or do you just want something performative?

In the same way “all lives matter” or “not all men” or “equal lefts”?

Read the room, pal. Whites have privilege, privilege is power, and refusing to do good with the privileges youre given is objectively evil.

“The way people higher up our social hierarchies are reliably listened to over those lower down these unjust rankings is itself a major injustice. And it’s a pernicious everyday fact of life under oppressive systems like patriarchy and white supremacy. But there’s a right way and a wrong way to respond to the situation as a more privileged person. The right way involves speaking up when others who are less privileged won’t be heeded in the same way, and then using your power and privilege to amplify the voices of the marginalized folks who’ve long been shouting into the void. A wrong way is speaking over those who are better positioned to understand the issues due to their lived experience. But there’s another wrong way too: maintaining a scrupulous silence.”

“When powerful and privileged white people speak in defense of Black and brown people subject to state violence and colonization and genocide, there’s often a long overdue moment of reckoning.”

Of course the white progressiveness still has white hubris even when trying to do something good: they have to be reminded of that every time, with extreme prejudice even.

I doubt that time is in Lemmy’s side – the Epstein class’s brainworms have proven to be self sustaining enough to trigger episodes like piefed and tesseract’s attempts to suppress leftist content so it’s only a matters of time until something sticks – presuming that it hasn’t already happened.
