Speaking as a family of three who are permanently disabled with no relatives and no other support $200 a month ain’t gonna cut it. Our combined taxable income is $17k a year. Try living on that. Canada just needs to decide whether it’s gonna take care of It’s disabled or ship them off to the camps because living like this is not healthy or humane.

Just the usual. Easy for us to MAID but to get some dignity or respect is not ok.

    OUR GOVERNMENT WANTS US DEAD!

Please help us speak up. No one is listening to us and we have no one representing us. Especially in government. Federal, provincial or municipal.

They don’t want housing prices to fall, which affects every poor person regardless of disability or not. We simply fell for it again as Trudeau said the same thing, the Liberals will lie every time to get elected.

The newly created Canada Disability Benefit is a start, which is in addition to other benefits.

But as the article points out, the “gotcha!” with these benefits is that it pays out based on income, rather than your gross income (after medical expenses).

More work is always needed when it comes to supporting the disabled, so I’m optimistic that we can move in the right direction with only a minority government.

Also only paid out if you are in need of more than standard care. I live on $13,000/year due to disability and not qualifying for any other income than CPP. We are a family of five. I have difficulty with balance but I can walk. I have severe muscle spasms from neurological damage to my spine but that doesn’t qualify me because I can walk on my own most days.

As a disabled person to qualify for the new disability benefit you must also qualify for the disability tax credit. Which has specific parameters to meet. If you are not severely disabled and have permanent issues with bodily functions or do not require supports you do not qualify. Period.

Not to mention, what do you do if your disability is mental?

There are many of us who are starving and homeless or near homelessness. Please help.

Yup, the DTC needs some changes. And disabled people shouldn’t have to suffer if their doctor is lazy or unwilling to sign the application.

For the number of disability groups who advocate for more funds, progress is going at a snail’s pace.

But to be honest, if we had a conservative federal government, we’d have disability supports taken away, not added to. We must keep fighting.

Honestly the way our new “liberal” leadership is trending we aren’t far from our own brand of class war fascism. They’ll come for us first as usual.

          Kinda like they are now…
