“This.” These comments add nothing to the discussion. I get that people want to show their support an argument/content, but that’s what upvotes are for. If you want to show your support for something, then at least try to think of something worthwhile to add to the discussion while expressing your support.

IIRC, that was even formally discouraged by rediquette - the idea being that such a reply is not meaningfully different from just giving an upvote.

Yeah no, I’ll keep using it, you’d be surprised how many people can’t pick up on sarcasm.

Personally speaking, I only adopted /s because so many people took things I was saying in mocking sarcasm as like, actual right wingism or other shit, so /s exists to make sure your audience knows you are mocking assholes, and are not one of the assholes.

I’m totally on board with this. Most of this stuff is random culture crap I could take or leave, but common use of /s is practically an excuse not to make an effort to understand the other person’s POV.

Being a charitable reader and trying to understand the other person is everything.

Sure, without it there will be misunderstandings… But coming back and clarifying “I thought that was obviously sarcastic” is the kind of little nudge that makes both people reread what they wrote, and introspection keeps a community healthy.

It’s embarrassing when you misunderstand someone or if you didn’t get your basic position across - and frankly it should be.

And if people get nasty the second they see a bad take, that’s a symptom of being in an echo chamber (or at least a very polarized community)

This. What you just wrote. I totally agree. Like a chef serving a bowl of stew, you stuck your ladle into my brain and from my incoherent abstract thoughts were able to form the exact sentiment of what it is I was feeling. Down to a decimal of a decimal, more perfectly than I ever could have iterated, you captured the essence of every nuance I experienced relating to the subject matter. No words could portray the awe I felt knowing that somebody shared the exact same thought process as me. Not only that, but with the ability to articulate in such a refined manner the depth of said thought process. No words could describe that feeling. Except one. This.

This. So much this! This accentuates my inner being and my soul as well. I was scrolling through the comments when I came across yours, and now I don’t even have post my comment because this is exactly what I would’ve said. I can’t emphasize this enough everyone, this comment right here is beyond the mortal planar, the very purpose behind this post and exactly what I’m looking for and should be what you’re looking for. I can’t believe I’ve lived my entire life without this post. Here take a poor man’s gold 🏅. Someone gild this post please. I’ll have you know I saved and upvoted, but keep in mind that if it was at 69 or 420 I wouldn’t (sorry but keks are more important). I’ll also have you know that I downvoted first so I’m basically worth double, no need to thank me. I’m probably going to put this on my wall that’s how much it means to me.
