The GOP-controlled Florida legislature passed a new set of Republican-favored congressional lines proposed by Gov. Ron DeSantis ® on Wednesday as state lawmakers look to fast-track a new House map as the midterms approach. Florida currently has a 20-8 Republican edge in its congressional delegation, but the new map that DeSantis is proposing aims to create a 24-4 GOP advantage. The House map advanced out of committees in both the Florida Senate and Florida House Tuesday — just hours after lawmakers convened for the start of their special session. The full Florida Senate and Florida House each voted on Wednesday to pass the congressional lines, and the map will now head to DeSantis’s desk for his swift signature. The Senate passed the map 21-7 Wednesday afternoon. The Florida governor is seeking to pass the new House map before the midterms in an effort to give Republicans more pickup opportunities in Congress. The Sunshine State represents the last chance for GOP redistricting before November.
I really hope all of this redistricting backfires and they cut their margins too slim.
That’s pretty likely in Florida, they just lost a seat that was R+19 the election before. If they drop margins into the +5-7 range it could be a 2010 level swing in the Democrats favor this time.

This is the right question. There is a difference between a party executing an obvious power grab and a party asking the people for permission to do a temporary power grab and then carrying out the will of the people whichever way the people vote.
I’m proud to be a Virginia resident right now. We are doing it the right way. Don’t like our legal gerrymander? Then jump on board with the national ban on gerrymandering. Another user put it really well: the team with Air Bud is just mad that the other team has their own Air Bud now.
Gerrymandering can easily be stopped by having a standard computer program to be used by all states draw congressional districts.

That could be the reason having a computer program draw districts is never considered by lawmakers from Democratics or Republicans. Both like gerrymandering unless it goes against them.

Yes, but it would be smart of Democrats to propose legislation to have companies bid for a computer program to draw congressional districts. Any refusal by Republicans can be used against them in their reelection.
