He tapped perfectly into that zeitgeist where the world is falling apart but we are still making entertainment, having kids, doing laundry. So many others refuse to acknowledge the oligarchical elephant in the room (looking at you, Legal Eagle) and I get that’s how they make their living so can’t go off the deep end but the tone deaf-ness of NOT acknowledging is so frustrating.
Thanks, Alec, for helping me feel like I’m not losing my mind in a world that is pretending we’re not hurtling headlong toward the worst parts of the 19th century.
And thank YOU for mentioning Legal Eagle in this discussion. I had to stop watching him once Trump got back in. He started coming off like he was clinging desperately the rule of law despite it constantly devaluing in front of all our eyes. I get it, he’s a lawyer, but there’s only so long you can go “wait, they can’t do that! The piece of paper says so!”

Then Trump was attacking the DC Bar and THEN he started talking about the fascist takeover. (My words, not his).
Just like everyone else, I guess: don’t take it seriously until it is happening to you.
