I think this post just ignores a lot of things out there.
The book Jurassic Park was released in 1990, and the film released in 1993. Since then we’ve had a handful of films and other spin-offs, all within the last 50 years.
The book The Hunger Games was released in 2008, and the film released in 2012. Since then we’ve had a handful of films and I would bet many more to come.
What about the Pokemon media franchise? Originally released in 1996 and is one of the largest franchises with video games, TV shows, movies and everything else.
I don’t think so. Because nobody can get the funding for anything original anymore. Its all cobtroles by business men and everyone wants as much profit as possible. Also one of the reasons everything is so bland and pg 13.

Harry Potter is the one that comes to mind. Also Game of Thrones if you’d like. Both really blew up, have spin offs and staying power. Harry Potter has toys, video games, and amusement parks.

That’s exactly the one I was thinking of. It was extremely influential on TV and pop culture, in the same way that Star Wars was for film.
it helps they are pretty much legacy franchises that had an original story. MCU is not that, disney tries too hard to tie them all into a smorgasbord shows. i think the pre-disney marvel shows were much better(the ones that were cancelled by disney because of the merger).

I was about to bring up those as well. The next closest that didn’t really hit the “spin-off” level was the hunger games, but definately could.
There are several new things in the same universe, so I wouldn’t say there aren’t spin-offs. They’re still going. I would say this is one of the many correct answers for this.
The super hero movies are to me what the westerns were to my grandfather and great uncles. I now understand what it is like to have something you love be mediocre and why you’d be excited to get something new that was great.
I feel like VR/AR will suddenly get bunch of advancements and completely overtake chatbots as the actual “next big thing.”

The last thing I watched in theaters was a reshowing of the Fellowship of the Ring. Everything else is on a buddy’s Plex server. Fuck the movies I ain’t paying 50 dollars for sticky floors and shitty snacks. I can do both of those at home.
I’m with you. I feel a bit bad because my husband loves (or loved) the experience of going to the movies, whereas I couldn’t care less and would prefer my couch. But we used to go because he enjoyed it, and it was nice to avoid spoilers for big things. Nowadays between having kids and the overall experience of movie-going having completely gone down the shitter and more expensive to boot, we don’t go anymore. And I don’t really miss it. He goes out sometimes with his buddies to see a movie, and I’ll tell him if there’s something he has to wait to see with me (Dune is the only thing recently).
