I know we have our complaints about the browser, but I liked this one :)

It’s a great ad! Sadly the underlying message is simply not true. Regardless of the browser you use (and I do use firefox) the old internet is no longer there. Now it’s just four apps full of brain dead content. It’s quite sad actually. Loved the video though, it made me smile :_)

I don’t know, small personal websites and webrings are having a bit of a comeback. Federated networks are humming along ,if not growing. AI is, ironically, making it much easier for people to build their own tools and ditch SaaS.

I still have hope for a decentralization comeback.

The Internet you loved is still here.

No it isn’t. The internet I loved is long-since dead. This is the same shit internet. Firefox doesn’t magically bring you to a wondrous new world of memes, and sites can still collect enough data on your device usage to build massive advertising profiles for you, despite what one may have convinced themselves of with a plethora of extensions. Also feels weird calling out browsers with built-in AI, considering the CEO’s dreams to integrate AI even deeper into Firefox.

It’s a cute ad, but the core messaging is flawed.

Firefox is controlled opposition for Chrome so that Google can claim they aren’t a monopoly in the browser scene. It’s why Mozilla always makes stupid decisions in spite of making an otherwise quality browser software.

The internet of the past also didn’t need 4GB of RAM to render a page.

I’ve been ride or die with FF since before Chrome was a thing. I keep Vivaldi installed for a few things, but FF is my daily driver.

I know that Mozilla has made some decisions that I don’t agree with, but the Internet would be worse off without FF.

I have to keep a version of Chrome around because Firefox refuses to support or won’t support web USB. But other than that my daily driver is Zen. Firefox based. And I wouldn’t trade it.

I do this too, but I can very much respect the decision not to support any kind of hardware-level access from a web browser.

Yes Firefox has pretty much been my daily driver since before it was called Firefox. And the UI overhaul in zen definitely elevates it. I wish the Mozilla Foundation was less focused on AI and advertisement bullshit and more focused on things like UI improvements or web USB support etc. The underlying engine is pretty decent. But it’s the foundations behavior that really makes it not viable for a lot of people.

Not OP, but it’s insanely useful for microcontroller stuff

Was part of a team who created an esp32 based gadget for “regular” people at a convention, and it was super easy to set up a website that reflashed the device if they wanted to change something or messed something up

No need for users to install weird sdks, tool chains or using a terminal

Firefox is pretty great, but I prefer privacy and security by default, which is why I run librewolf only over VPN. I could go TOR, but man that’s a pain.
