According to the West of England Combined Authority website, Norris previously worked as an NSPCC-trained child protection officer.

    Well that’s a worry.

Norris, 65, was elected as the MP for North East Somerset and Hanham in 2024, defeating the Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.

I wonder who will be lining up to try to win the seat after Norris is gone? Because he’s probably not going to be able to hold his seat, whether or not the charges stick.

Edit: In another article they mention that he also has a master’s degree in social work. More and more I’m leaning towards this being a potential stitch up. However, we don’t know what information the police have, none of that is public.

Multiple accusers over a period covering 20 years, and the police are confident enough in the case to have advanced to the arrest phase.

I haven’t seen a thing about multiple accusers? The information I’ve read suggests it’s one accuser, with multiple events in the 2000’s and one recent accusation of rape in the 2020’s. In particular, the police statement said “The victim is being supported and given access to any specialist help or support she needs.”, which directly implies only one accuser.

and the police are confident enough in the case to have advanced to the arrest phase.

That doesn’t mean much of anything.

Wow, he’s done so much in and out of government. Why lose it all to be a nonce?

Just my personal opinion but I think while you are right - a lot of the time it’s almost coincidental that these two factors overlap.

I say that because I think a huge factor is an underlying psychological need to feel powerful and in control. So in their actions they target those who it is easy to feel powerful over. But in their posturing they seek positions that are viewed as powerful.

It’s all a somewhat normal biological drive that healthy people grow through and integrate into their psyche while going on to add things like empathy. For these people that part of their development remains at that of a tiny child. Maybe genetic, maybe trauma, whatever it is they need help - and help far away from the vulnerable and positions of power so people can remain safe until they can (if it’s possible - and I’m not sure it is always) heal.

To be clear - nothing about these people’s actions is OK, they are terrible people. But I do think we should be trying to figure out more why so many of them end up in powerful positions and what we can do about it, is there early interventions we could be putting in place etc. to catch these people and head off their harm at the pass.
