Thank you Spez for banning my account of nine years for voicing my political opinion! I made many contributions to communities over the years and now you’ve lost that so good fucking bye.

I recently lost my 13 year old account for telling a Nazi troll that their actions have consequences.

Still trying appeals but not optimistic.

Literally thousands of unpaid work done as a moderator of 4 subs during that time.

    … Im so bitter.

Now I’m bitter for you too.

Who is going to create content or mod subs if they kick out all of us veterans?

It’s always been like that. They’re parasite - they ruin the thing they latch on to, then they jump ship with fat stacks of cash and move on to the next product to kill.

Honestly, I shouldn’t still be pissed about my ban but I can’t help it.

I was on reddit for over 10 years with millions of fake internet points

Sitewide banned me for no discernable reason

It’s been a couple of months and they still haven’t even bothered to respond to my appeal

Now that I see how reddit’s going down the tube, I don’t even care if they respond at this point

    I’m done with it

Kinda nice to get banned though. I was banned from xitter for liking a comment critical of the muskman, it really helped reinforce that I needed to be done with that place though. Maybe I’ll move on from Reddit before that happens…

Hey at least you got banned! I just keep getting network errors on mine which is clearly shadow banned since logging in on any other account on the same device does work normally.

Once you’re banned, do your previous posts and comments get deleted? Or do you just lose access to them?

And just think, you guys were the ones who didn’t leave back when it was going down the shitter because you disagreed with the opinions of the people they were banning.

This isn’t even exactly a haven for wrongthink either. /r/fatpeoplehate couldn’t exist on Lemmy, so most people coming over aren’t even really concerned with political opinions being silenced, so much as they care about their particular political opinion being silenced.

It absolutely could exist. It’s just likely that a lot of servers would defederate them. That’s kind of the beauty of federation.

Well there ya go. Turns out the fediverse isn’t about freedom from corporations - and it’s just about creating your own brand of filter bubble.

Turns out, those are sort of the same thing. You are given the power to shape your feed how you want it instead of how some corporation wants it.

Yes, but federation controls that on a wider level by adjusting what you’re allowed to see and interact with. Therefore, someone above you gets to control that still. That’s the point I’m making.

If everything federated by default, and users could sign up for filter lists or something to make it easy - sure. But that’s not how it works.

Lemmy even did the same thing Reddit is doing now, where if you mentioned a certain topic they were banning people; but they walked it back. I believe it was even the same topic of Luigi and “advocating violence”.

Therefore, someone above you gets to control that still.

There is nothing stopping you from running your own Lemmy instance and choosing to federate with whomever you choose.

Lemmy even did the same thing Reddit is doing now

Which Lemmy instance? If you don’t like it, just join a different one.

This is all the beauty of not only federation, but also open source.

It really depends. World is friends with pretty much everyone with a few notable exceptions. There are definitely instances that care about that, but you can’t force an isolationist instance to communicate with you.

Freedom goes both ways. It also means freedom to form a bubble.
