I can’t really jork it to characters in games and media I enjoy non-hornily. It feels icky to my brain

guess I’ll never play Genshin now lol

I played genshin for like 2 months, trying to figure out what people liked about it. I muted the game to stop the anime noises within the first day, skipped every cutscene by day 2 because the characters’ mannerisms pissed me off, blocked online elements within a week because other players were deeply uninteresting, and hit a hard progress wall within a month of increasingly intermittent playtime. I left after a few weekly boss rushes began to remind me of RuneScape grinding.

Which is to say, you can freely play it. It’s terrible

skipped every cutscene by day 2

It’s very easy to get filtered. Get past the prologue and chapter 1 and the story gets significantly better, to the extent that the narrative and gameplay frameworks allow, and often exceeds the likes of Dark Souls in both story and lore.

Masquerade Of The Guilty is fucking cinema and I will fight anyone who disagrees.

        • I got to the lightning island and found the only interesting aspects of the entire game to be snippets of conversation from certain characters and floating around like botw. The philosophy relating to eternity and responsibility from some of the gods, enemies, and the former king (I think) of the fallen kingdom were about all I cared to listen to.

Gameplay 3/10- combat made me want to die. Movement was alright.
style 4/10- heavily reduced due to intolerable anime noises. Muted, 7/10.
Dialogue 2/10- I was deeply uninterested in most of their repeated jokes and maladjusted chicanery. Eyepatch girl, in particular, needs a second lobotomy.
Story 6/10- it’s a neat framework that they simply did not execute in a way that I could enjoy.

Overall, 4/10, not worth playing. If muting voices had been an option, I’d bump it up.

I played Genshin not as a Gacha but as an Action Adventure akin to BotW, and I really enjoyed it. It has some beautiful environments. When I started to play it as a Gacha, I lost interest soon.

The philosophic part is the worst part

It’s just a ham-fisted clusterfuck on a scale worse than the original ending of Evangelion (and that franchise also sucks btw)

It’s called giving the game a chance.

Also, that’s not the quality of retort you think it is. Having a lot of players getting bored and dropping a game before it gets “good” is a bad thing

It’s called giving the game a chance.

,If you don’t enjoy the gameplay after let’s say 2 hours, it’s fine to just stop. If you play something without enjoying it, that’s on you.

Having a lot of players getting bored and dropping a game before it gets “good” is a bad thing

I’m not aware that many players dropped the game. AAFAIK, the game was positively received and many people liked it.

And I didn’t say that it takes a while to “get good”. I said that it takes a while for the philosophical themes to show.

Most people that drop a game out of boredom don’t tend to talk about it that much. That just lets the diehard fans dictate the narrative about it, especially for one that requires multiple playthroughs like Nier

It’s well liked by critics (88% on metacritic) and the audience (very positive on steam). Your opinion is an outlier. Let other people enjoy things.

It doesn’t require multiple playthroughs. The game’s chapters are just structured in a weird way. Each “playthrough” that’s required has a different perspective and or story than the last one.

Even if you consider each chapter a “playthrough”, then each of those is just a few hours.

I suppose boring story-wise? I personally enjoy the kind of storytelling Drakengard games have, it’s full of slow buildup sidequests with usually very sharp endings. Also how dramatic it all gets. Loved Automata so much that after fully completing it (except for that evil one-shot DLC arena) I went and ran through Replicant, too.

But they do take a lot of time to complete and I suppose if you are not that much into all the 19th century philosophy and all the emotional damage characters suffer, that can be boring.

Another thing, if people here persuade you to try it somehow, a controller is mandatory for this game and do try different keybind presets the game offers, the default one sucks.

There’s more sexy characters in the games I won’t like the gameplay of than the games I usually like to play. 🤷‍♂️

Shit, a lot of games I play don’t even have people in them. Am I supposed to just goon to rule 34 of machinery?
